HOW P.E.A. BEGAN
Pacific Equine Appraisal was launched in 1999.
Angel has been involved with horses since age five, when she first learned to ride.
In fact, when she was just four, she asked her father for a horse and when asked
where she would put the horse, she answered, "Well, in the bath tub, of course!"
After years of harassing her dad to buy her a horse, she finally won the battle,
acquiring her first horse at age eleven. She owned horses continuously from that
time forward.
Angel trained many different breeds of horses in several disciplines, from ponies
early in her career, barrel racers, gymkhana, dressage, driving, western, trail,
Thoroughbred race horses, pleasure and hunters & jumpers in the last eight years
as a professional trainer. Angel also started writing horse-related articles in
1985. She wrote articles and a column called Equine News & Views for a California
magazine named Today's Horseman. She later branched out, writing freelance
articles for local, regional and national magazines.
After more than 25 years as a horse trainer and consultant, Angel decided to retire
from the everyday physical work of running her training stable, A.G. Training Stable
& Horse Transportation in southern California in 1994. The difficult decision
to retire came about due to a previous back injury sustained in a car accident.
After working through the pain for years, and upon the advice of her doctor, she
reluctantly gave in to the inevitable. She sold her horse business and home, moving
to Oregon that same year.
She made the move to the Pacific Northwest with her husband, Michael and son, James.
She purchased an office supply and equipment repair business with her husband, but
she still wanted to be involved with horses, so she continued to write horse articles
while searching for a new, less physical career within the horse industry. Something
a well-known trainer said years ago has always stuck with her, "It's what you learn
after you know it all that counts." So Angel continues to learn more about horses
- the unusual breeds, behavior, disciplines, physiology and anything else she can
to stay current in the ever-changing horse industry.
